It takes a bit to get it all right, and even then you won’t be able to run games much newer than 70’s, 80’s and some very early 90’s arcade games, but that’s exactly what I was after, and it’s tons of fun.The Internet Arcade is a web-based library of arcade (coin-operated) video games from the 1970s through to the 1990s, emulated in JSMAME, part of the JSMESS software package.Ĭontaining hundreds of games ranging through many different genres and styles, the Arcade provides research, comparison, and entertainment in the realm of the Video Game Arcade. I used this BEFORE creating my RetroArch playlist with the playlist tool.Ĭatver.ini file can be found here (save page as catver.ini) Using the tool in conjunction with the MAME dat/xml file found on the site, and by altering the path settings in the tool to match the rom location on my Vita’s filesystem, I was able to generate a RetroArch playlist with proper game names.Īnother tool by the same author allows you to use a catver.ini file plus the dat/xml to filter your roms by category and game-type, removing those you don’t want, significantly slimming down your romset. To resolve this, I used a third-party playlist creator. The RetroArch built-in rom scanner/playlist creator is notoriously finicky and often omits a lot of my roms. To get them to show up properly in RetroArch, you’ll need to make a playlist.

It’s a non-merged set, meaning that all the parent roms and BIOS files needed for each game are in its. With MAME, you must have roms/a romset that matches the MAME version you’re trying to run (MAME2000 = MAME Version 037b5). This is because the Vita isn’t an overly powerful device, processor-wise. 2003 & 2003-plus may run more games, but performance suffers. For Vita specifically, the MAME2000 core is the most consistently playable MAME core for me.

Getting MAME roms running in RetroArch - whether PC or Vita - takes some doing. At least with Konami games (The Simpsons, TMNT2: Turtles in Time, etc) this lets you select your character. And if it's not a supported ROM I'm out of luck scrolling through that huge gamelist anyway.Īlso, a more minor question: is there an easy all in one solution for playing as the different players/users on arcade games with multiplayer? As an example if I load up The Simpsons (terrific) beat'em up I always play as the first character, Marge.ĮDIT: For that last question, the easy solution is to use the 2-player rather than 4-player ROM. I also have PFBA installed but can't figure out where the roms for it should go.

Is this the 'correct' way to have my files set up? If so, can I 'hide' the bios zips from the Retroarch UI when I am trying to scroll to my actual ROMs, as there's hundreds of them.? I can't figure out how to identify what bios files are even needed for the titles I want to play or I would delete the bios' i'm not using. I put the games I wanted in the same Roms folder as my regular console retroarch games are and dumped in all the mame bios zips as well. I downloaded a giant romset (60 gigs or so) and really just want to pick and choose about a dozen titles and stick them on the vita. Can anybody help me or point me to a post for an easy setup for Arcade games?
